Denise Churchill is an accomplished Pastry Chef, trained in French pastry with a degree from the French Culinary Institute in New York City.
After more than a decade on Wall Street, Denise left the world of finance after surviving the 9/11 attacks, to pursue a dream in culinary arts. She then worked for years at several of New York City’s trendiest restaurants and with one of NYC’s renowned wedding caterers, Denise moved to Chicago and landed on the “Cake Team” at Bittersweet in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood.
Additional experience in Chicago has included working as a Chef-Instructor at The Chopping Block, sharing her skills and passion with home cooks. Denise eventually returned to the world of finance but has never let her passion for pastry wane. As fate would have it, after surviving a diagnosis of breast cancer in 2016, Denise immersed herself in baking for friends and family.
In 2019, Denise officially launched SimplySweetByD, an online bakery specializing in custom wedding and occasion cakes, as well as a full repertoire of dessert offerings.
Denise lives in New Buffalo with her husband, their two children, and their beloved Labrador Retriever.
